Monster Monday

Happy Monday! Doesn't it always seem that the weekends just aren't long enough? To get through my Monday, I absolutely must have vanilla iced coffee. If I don't have it, I just can't be accountable for my actions, lol! So that was my inspiration for today's card.

I just adore this little monster! His name is Gustav and he's a digital stamp from Useless Trinkets which is a German site by artist Jessa Feig. She draws the cutest critters and has a little bit of dark side. One of my favorites is a zombie unicorn. I just love her stuff! Go check it out here.

So on with the card! I printed out the image on X-Press IT blending paper and used my Copic markers to color Gustav. I started by feathering in different shades of blue all around his body to give him the appearance of fur. I felt he needed additional texture so I added some dot detail all around the center of the image where the feathering was less noticeable. I thought that really started to make him come to life.

For his horns, I picked neutral gray Copics and then covered them with glossy accents to help make them shine. I also took a white gel pen to his horns and eyes just to add some details. Here is a close up of Gustav in all his glory:

For the card base, I choose a navy cardstock and picked out this cute coffee cup print from a 6x6 paper pack. I ran the printed paper through my big shot using a wonky stitches die from Avery Elle. I love the subtle detail it adds. When I put Gustav on top of the printed paper it really seemed to overwhelm him. To mute the background a bit, I decided to add a piece of vellum behind Gustav. This really made him become the focus.

There are a ton of sentiments that come with this digital image. Being that Gustav is my Monday spirit animal, this saying was perfect. I popped it up with some foam tape and adhered Gustav behind it using Multi Medium Matte. I went back and forth on adding some embellishments but in the end I decided to keep it really simple and just let Gustav be the star of the card.

I hope you enjoyed this fun little design and that it made you smile on a Monday morning! Have a great week and I'll be back soon!
