Wild Birthday Card

Happy Thursday! For today's post I'm excited to use some products from awesome fairly new stamp company called The Ton. Their stamps are so unique and "couture" as they say in their tag line. I also love the sassy sentiments they include. The first set I purchased was Sketchy Menagerie. I just love the whimsy of it. I was inspired by the sentiment "It's your day get a little WILD." I just pictured these fun colorful animals on a wall and attempted to make them come to life.

I started by stamping all of the animal heads on some Copic friendly paper. I chose bright Copic color combinations for each animal so they'd really pop against a black and white scheme. I wanted them to be the focus of the card. After coloring, I fussy cut each image. Let me just tell you how challenging those little deer antlers were! Since my cutting was not perfect, I took a black brush pen and touched up all of the edges. This just makes the shapes look seamless and clean.

For the layout, I was inspired by the Sunday Stamp Sketch below. I thought this would really provide a nice frame and highlight the little animals. I settled on a fun black and white chevron paper from my stash for my "wallpaper." I played around with the order of the animals. I wanted to make sure it look balanced. Once that was set, I broke out some black foam squares to pop up each little critter. I did have to cut some very small pieces for the antlers. What a challenge!

Before adhering them, I remember I needed that sentiment. I masked the word "wild" so that I could heat emboss the first half of the sentiment in white. I then masked that part off and embossed the word "wild" in gold. I really like the way it turned out. Once that was all done, I adhered my little animals. For the finishing touch, I grabbed my clear Wink of Stella pen and gave each animal a bit of sparkle. Here's a close up of the card:

I am joining the Sunday Stamp Sketch challenge this week. Be sure to check out the other cards crafters came up with. I will definitely be utilizing this layout again. So clean and simple.

Too Cute to Spook

Happy Monday! I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend. I just can't believe how fast this year is flying by. For today's card, I was inspired by the current challenge over on the Lawnscaping blog called "Too Cute to Spook." Using some of the adorable Lawn Fawn products, I came up with this fun little card.

I finally had a chance to play around with the new Lawn Fawn set called "Booyah!" These little ghosts with their costumes are great. Lots of different options. I knew I wanted to make a card for my boyfriend so I picked the Frankenstein and Bride of Frankenstein ghosts. I started by doing a little stamp masking and then colored them with Copics. After fussy cutting the images, I added a few details like clear Wink of Stella and some Stickles to her white streak and his bolts. Here's a close up view. You can really see the shimmer of the Wink of Stella. Have I mentioned how much I love that stuff?

For the background, I used a die from WPlus9 that cuts and embosses little stars. I wanted a nice stitched border so I cut my star piece again using a Lawn Fawn Stitched Rectangle die. I went back and forth on whether to ink blend the background or watercolor. I ended up doing both. I started with a wash of purple and blue watercolor dabbing it off with a paper towel to get some variation in color. It turned out very pretty and bright but since this was for my guy, I decided to ink blend black distress ink around the edges to mute the color a bit and make it more like a Halloween night sky. Once this was dry, I adhered it to a piece of silver glitter paper so you would see just a hint of twinkle in each star.

I created the sentiment with a alpha set and heat embossed it in white on a piece of black card stock. I trimmed a slant in the end and grabbed another sliver of the silver glitter paper for some added interest. I popped up this piece along with the ghosts using some black foam squares. All of that was then attached to a piece of striped paper and a gray card base. My finishing touch was adding a little enamel heart. I struggle with making masculine cards because I want to throw in all of the glitter and sequins I can! Overall, I liked the way it turned out and I'm pretty sure "my boo" will too!

Such a fun challenge! Be sure to check out all of the entries on the Lawnscaping Challenge Blog. Thanks for reading! Until next time!

Walking Dead Card

Happy Friday! This week has just flown by! I'm looking forward to the weekend, especially watching the Walking Dead on Sunday night. As a tribute, I thought I'd share this silly little zombie girl who has fallen in love with Daryl Dixon. Haven't we all?

I started with a this great digital stamp by Saturated Canary called "Walker in Love." I grabbed my Copic markers and started coloring. I really liked how my shading came out. I think she's that perfect shade of zombie green! After she was done, I started added a few extra touches such as some Stickles to her cuts and some of the letters in the sentiment and glossy accents on her buttons on her boots and her eyes. For her "zombie" eye, I used matte white Stickles. It turned out pretty creepy, in a good way! Here's a close up of some of the details.

Once she was all done, I cut the piece down to fit my card. I then layered some navy card stock behind her to make her pop a bit more. For the card base, I used a olive green card stock splattered with a bit of red distress ink. I picked a couple more pieces of card stock in dark green & brown to finish up the background. I popped her panel up with dimensionals to complete the layout. I debated adding a few sequins but they just didn't feel right. I looked through my stash and found these cute enamel hearts that I've had forever and thought they fit perfectly with the sentiment: "I think I just fell in love with a Dixon." (I had to include a picture...sigh...)

I hope you enjoyed this fun departure from my norm. For those that aren't fans of horror, I hope you appreciated the cuteness of this zombie! I'm entering this card in two challenges that just happen to be perfect for it: CASology - Zombie and Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge - Monster Mash. There's are some amazing designs at both blogs. Be sure to check out the fun! Thank you for stopping by and I'll see you next time!
